Apothic Wines Apothic Red California 2012 (red)

Apothic Winery’s namesake red wine is a well rounded blend of California grown French grapes that consists of Zinfandel, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Savignon varieties. The wine-maker has stated on their website that they were inspired by, “Apotheca, a mysterious place where wine was blended and stored in 13th century Europe.”
The wine-maker seems to be going for a smooth and intense wine that’s slightly syrupy, with hints of dark berries and chocolate. I believe they’ve achieved exactly what they were after, unfortunately it’s also a nondescript wine lacking individuality and character.
Overall this is a great wine for casual wine lovers, and while it’s not particularly unique, I would gladly drink this while catching up with old friends.
